ALBANY (April 25, 2024) -- After months of advocacy by the over 130 AAPI-led and -serving community-based organizations that make up the CACF co-led Equity Budget Coalition, we are proud to share that the historic $30 million of NY State funding to our AAPI communities that our coalition has been pushing for has been restored in this year’s State Budget!

CACF Co-Executive Directors Anita Gundanna and Vanessa Leung share, “As the proud co-leader of the Equity Budget Coalition, CACF sees firsthand how the needs of AAPI New Yorkers have grown in recent years and how the vital funding in the AAPI Equity Budget will uplift communities across New York. With the restoration of $30 million of funding to the NYS AAPI Equity Budget Coalition, Governor Hochul, Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Speaker Heastie are sending a clear message that AAPI New Yorkers deserve to be seen in New York State’s Budget."

This victory for our communities would not be possible without the work of APA Task Force Co-Chairs Assemblymembers Grace Lee and Zohran Mamdani and AAPI Equity Budget champions Senators Iwen Chu and John Liu along with all of our legislative supporters in both houses of the New York State Legislature.

But as we celebrate this major budget victory, we remain disappointed the new State Budget does not include funding for Coverage For All — which would have brought health care access to thousands of immigrant New Yorkers. Our coalition will continue to push for health care access for all, regardless of immigration status.

CACF remains committed to continuing our fight for equity for all AAPI New Yorkers!
