CACF Statement on the 2027 New York State Executive Budget
Funding will help expand programs and services for AAPI communities across the State
The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) recognizes the passage of the FY2027 New York State Budget and strongly supports several meaningful investments and protections that will support Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, immigrant New Yorkers, children, and families across the state. At the same time, our communities continue to face escalating economic, health, and immigration-related hurdles that this budget fails to fully address.
CACF is grateful for the inclusion of $30 million in AAPI Equity funding that will go directly to community-based organizations serving AAPI communities across New York State. This investment reflects years of advocacy by AAPI organizations and coalitions across the state to address the longstanding underinvestment and invisibility of our communities. These funds are critical to strengthening culturally responsive services, language access, youth development, mental health support, and community infrastructure for one of the fastest-growing populations in New York.
During these particularly challenging times for our immigrant and lower income communities, CACF is gravely concerned for the nearly half a million New Yorkers left facing healthcare uncertainty due to federal changes, and we urge the state to do more to protect the most vulnerable New Yorkers. On July 1, federal changes will strip Essential Plan health insurance from nearly 500,000 New Yorkers—with over half of them residing in New York City. This massive loss of coverage will place an immense, avoidable strain on the city’s public health system—a crisis that could have been prevented had protection been included in the state budget. CACF and our health advocacy partners will continue to fight for health coverage for all New Yorkers and push our state leaders to do better to protect the most marginalized communities.
As CACF prepares to enter our 40th anniversary year as the nation’s only pan-Asian children and families advocacy organization, we remain committed to working alongside our partners, members, youth leaders, and communities to ensure that AAPI New Yorkers — especially those most marginalized — are visible, protected, and meaningfully invested in. We know that budgets are moral documents. They reflect who is prioritized, who is protected, and whose futures are valued.
This year’s budget reflects important progress, but also important unfinished work. CACF remains committed to continuing the fight for a New York where all children, youth, and families — across AAPI communities and in solidarity with all marginalized communities — can thrive.
Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) is the nation’s only pan-Asian children and families’ advocacy organization bringing together community-based organizations as well as youth and community allies to fight for equity for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). CACF’s mission is to advocate for equity and opportunity for marginalized AAPI children and families. We are building a community too powerful to IGNORE. Our vision is for all children and families, including Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, in New York to be safe, healthy, and able to reach their full potential in life.
